TENS in case of occipital and neck pain

Through a TENS device treatment, the neck muscles can loosen again, the blood circulation improves and the pain subsides quickly. In most cases, it is quite useful to extend the application to the shoulder and upper back area, to release tension and achieve pain relief. Chronic pain in the neck can be caused by an accident or rheumatic diseases, for example. Here a blockage of the pain transmission to the brain can be achieved. The impulses triggered by TENS influence the nerves involved in this method in such a way that it is no longer possible for them to transmit the pain stimulus. Another possibility for pain reduction through TENS is the release of pain-reducing, endogenous hormones, the endorphins.

Application of stimulation current electrodes for neck pain:

Attention: Never place the electrodes on the carotid artery.

A stimulation current massage with a TENS device can help with neck pain. Headaches and neck pain are often caused by incorrect posture or stress. Please pay attention to contraindications in the neck area. For example, never stick the electrode on the carotid artery. Here you will find the correct electrode placement. For the application you can use  the electrodes 5 x 5 cm.

Following the TENS treatment, you can use the EMS programs P29 or P30 to loosen the neck muscles in order to release tension. Adjust the intensity so you feel light muscle twitching. The relaxation can be applied for 10 to 20 minutes. With EMS, you can train the muscles in addition to pain therapy to strengthen the back and avoid future discomfort. Especially when you sit a lot, for example at work, the back muscles are often not sufficiently trained.
