Neck Training with Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS)
EMS training for the neck muscles
The neck muscles consist mainly of the trapezius muscle, which is also called the hooded muscle because of its shape and position. The muscles in the neck are responsible for turning our head, raising our arms higher than shoulder level, supporting the shoulder when lifting weights and also for our posture. Due to the constant strain in everyday life, it makes sense to integrate the neck muscles into your personal training plan.
Neck pain or neck tension is one of the most common complaints. They are often caused by long periods of sitting and one-sided movements of the head, e.g. when working at a computer. Neck training can make a valuable contribution to the prevention of neck pain and muscle tension in the neck, because a well-trained muscle area is less susceptible to injury. Since the neck is directly related to the head, cervical spine, back and other parts of the body, this is especially important in this case.
We would like to show you how you can train your neck muscles with EMS in combination with conventional exercises without dumbbells. For this purpose, we have selected a special exercise for you that you can do both, without and in combination with EMS. You do not need dumbbells or other machines for this, household weights are sufficient. With the axion EMS machine you can support your neck training with electrical muscle stimulation.

Our EMS machine and electrode pad recommendations

This is how you should place the electrode pads for neck training
Our 5x5cm electrodes shown in the picture and the TENS EMS combo machine STIM-PRO X9 are suitable for training the neck muscles.
- Select an EMS program for small muscle groups or set a manual EMS mode.
- Set the intensity so that the muscles in the neck clearly noticeably contract.
- As soon as the contractions start, perform the exercises parallel to the contraction by the EMS device. Keep to the same contraction and rest intervals as the EMS programme. You do not need dumbbells for the exercises; a water box, for example, is ideal as a weight.
Our program recommendation for the training of the neck muscles
Since the stress sensations and goals of muscle stimulation are individual, we have compiled an overview with different needs for you. Simply connect and attach the muscle stimulator pads, select the programme and start the training:
All programs are included in our TENS-EMS combo machine STIM-PRO X9.

Please note:
The current strength should be set so that the intended muscle contracts significantly without feeling pain.
Before your workout you should warm up the muscles to prepare them for the upcoming exercise load. Our EMS TENS combo machine offers pre-installed warm-up-programs, which automatically start right before the actual training program. Therefore you can train very relaxed.
Exercise for neck training at home
Beginner: Neck pull without EMS
Note: A water box is an ideal tool that allows you to easily adjust the intensity to your needs.
- Grasp the water box with both hands and stand upright.
- Tense your neck muscles and pull your shoulders upwards (make sure that the upward movement is not done by the muscles of the arms, but by the neck muscles).
- Hold this position for a few seconds
- Lower your shoulders back to the starting position.
- Repeat this exercise several times
